HISTORY 

The Porsche 911 Speedster (964) was introduced in 1993 as a special limited-production version of the Porsche 911 (964), created as a tribute to Porsche’s classic open-top sports cars. Its inspiration traces back to the legendary Porsche 356 Speedster, a lightweight, minimalist roadster known for pure driving enjoyment.

Unlike the standard 964 Cabriolet, the Speedster featured a lower, raked windshield, a manual lightweight fabric roof, and its signature double-hump rear tonneau cover, giving it one of the most recognizable silhouettes in Porsche history. Most examples were built on the Carrera 2 rear-wheel-drive platform, maintaining the traditional 911 driving experience.

Power came from Porsche’s 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six engine, producing around 247 horsepower, paired with either a 5-speed manual or Tiptronic transmission. The car emphasized an open-air, analog driving feel rather than outright luxury, staying true to the Speedster philosophy.

Only about 930 units of the 964 Speedster were produced worldwide, making it one of the rarer variants of the 964 generation. Today it is highly sought after by collectors for its distinctive design, heritage connection, and pure air-cooled Porsche driving character.
